Studying Plan for Bsc in Civil Engineering in the University of Jordan:

The studying plan of Civil Engineering mainly consists of two streams:
  1. Mathematics branch
  2. Physics branch
That means that any subject studied in the department starts with a parent prerequest of either mathimatics or physics.

Water and high way subjects belong to the mathimatics stream, where students start with calculus subjects provided by the Mathematics Department of the Science Faculty.
After calculus 1 students may start by taking high way materials beginning with surveying 1, but to start with water and environmental materials students will still have to study calculus 2, calculus 3 and differential equations.

Structures and construction materials are all in the physics branch, where students start with general physics 1 provided by the Physics Department of the Science Faculty. After taking strength of materials, this stream is divided into two more, the structures stream and the geotechnical one.

Some subjects in civil engineering don’t go with any of mentioned branches like; economy, construction management and construction methods.

Students studying currently in the Civil Engineering Department in the University of Jordan might be following one of two plans, the 2002 plan and the 2005 one. Students who joined the faculty before the academic year 2005 follow the old syllabus which was established in the academic year 2002. The 2002 plan requires the students to finish 150 credit hours to be graduated, on the other hand, the 2005 syllabus requires 160 credit hours.

Below are the main differences between the two syllabuses:
